Maryland Bridge
Maryland Bridge
In some cases, a Maryland Bridge is a viable, conservative alternative to conventional bridge work. Because the longevity of the bond is not predictable, we prefer to think of these as "long term temporary" restorations. To help ensure the success of these bridges, the following factors are important: Use mainly for single tooth replacements; Maximum interference-free enamel bonding area must be available for the retainers; As much mesial distal wrap-around as possible should be used to enhance mechanical retention; A dry field is essential when bonding. (When bond failures of our bridges have occurred, it is nearly always the enamel/composite interface that fails; the metal/composite bond is extremely strong)
